Proposed Project Lands
Tara BESS is proposed for development on private lands located at 39 Concession Road 4 in Tara, Ontario.
The « BESS Buildable Area » (pictured) represents the potential BESS development area and is not reflective of the proposed BESS layout.
The optioned lands are not proposed to host Tara BESS, but may be used for site access or storage during construction.
Project Details
Tara BESS is a proposed 400 MW, 1600 MWh standalone battery energy storage system – a capacity equal to the daily energy consumption of approximately 640,000 households in Ontario.
The preliminary design for Tara BESS includes:
- 420 lithium-ion battery cell containers, equipped with inverters and fans
- 3 transformers, switching equipment, and a SCADA system
- ~450 metres of overhead transmission lines
- ~5 steel structures to hold the transmission lines
- An acoustic barrier wall
Tara BESS will be enclosed by fencing, and will include a site office, parking, site lighting, security cameras, and equipment storage space.
Tara BESS is proposed for connection to the existing 230-kilovolt high voltage transmission line to the south of the site.
